Engineering: where imagination meets innovation

From movie making equipment to specialist mining machinery, the potential applications for airbags are endless. Airbag Man has an experienced engineering team who can work closely with you to custom design and develop a concept.

Drawing on a long history of innovation, we use a combination of computer-aided design, 3D printing, and modern manufacturing processes to bring your idea to life. All design and development occurs onsite at Airbag Man headquarters, within our Research and Development Hub and fully operable workshop. The only limit is your imagination.

Our Process

General enquiry: non-automotive applications

1) Confirm application – Discuss the application, any operating parameters, the desired outcome.

2) Seek specifics – Details regarding the specific application, weights, minimum and maximum heights, stroke range, operating environment, and required quantity.

3) Identify & select – With information supplied by client, narrow down possible airbags suitable for the application. Supply tech data sheets of potential parts to confirm available options with client.

4) Review – Confirm final operating parameters. Double check information supplied to ensure product suitability.

5) Source & supply – Supply the necessary parts for testing and use. Source necessary parts if not available on the shelf.

6) Follow-up – After sales service is the key to measuring our success. Contacting the customer to gain feedback and ensure that the airbag performance meets the expected outcome.

New vehicle suspension kits

1) Source vehicle – Through our many partners and existing customers, we source a vehicle that we can use for initial R&D.

2) Investigate - Using our R&D vehicle, we will source a range of measurements including standard ride height, full extension height, and vehicle payload weights. We also take images for future reference or operational documentation.

3) Airbag selection – From the weights and measurements supplied, an airbag is chosen from Airbag Man’s wide range of available airbags as the preferred option.

4) Bracket design – Using SolidWorks CAD, brackets are designed around the chosen bag's stud pattern and existing chassis design, avoiding the need to modify the vehicle in any way.

5) 3D design – We use a 3D printer to mockup designs to use in initial test fits. This helps to check for initial bolt up fitment and ensure the bags' alignment is within the allowable tolerances.

6) Test production – A small batch of brackets is manufactured for testing purposes with selected test vehicles, which are used in a range of different applications. Through these installations, images are taken to assist with fitting instructions and other operational documentation.

7) Instructions – We then draft our fitting instructions and film an installation video for general use. Please note that installation videos are not available for all vehicles.

8) Final production - Once a product has been rigorously tested in the field, general production is approved. The kit will be launched and offered to the market for sale.

9) Stock holding - Once kits have been approved for final production, stock is ordered based on various forecast models to ensure immediate and future demand.
